New alphabet, language?

New alphabet, language? from Hugo Mendes on Vimeo.

This work is part of an investigation and lecture I did last weekend in Valencia, Spain, in the 4cit (4th international conference of typography). Its quite complicated explain all the work, because its a long process, but I will give a try. The project it’s done in different phases:

The deconstruction of two opposite alphabets a calligraphic and a typographic;
A study of the white spaces that define the different strokes.
Based on new rules I get combinations of strokes that permit to create new structures (its still incompleted) but with, for example, four strokes I can get different structures;
Finally I try to join the structures that were created and build a new narrative, a non linear narrative that can be interpretative or simply compositive, you can comparate it to the hypertext for example. With the hypertext we are the narrators we create our content our way to understand something;

The way we visualize information with hypertext its different of reading a book, or any linear narrative.
With the new technologies, tools, etc… we should start to think in a new way to transmit a signification and we should also stop copying the analogue world, why do we have to transport the analogue to the digital if the digital can be so much more powerfull. We’re to stuck to our past, to our language, and we need to evolve, our intelligence, our brain can go so much far…
The images above can be interpreted in a macro and micro space, you can enter the image in different ways or points, you can zoom in and zoom out. Its like entering in another space of interpretation. Each micro part forms another part and another and another…
